Save Reddit videos and images
Save a Reddit video or image straight from the post. Protego downloads it and hands the file to Share, Photos, or Downloads.
Sending a Reddit video to someone usually means sending a link, and a link is only as good as the post behind it. A saved file is yours instead: the video sends as a video, the image arrives at the size it was posted, and both are still there next month whether or not the post is.
Start a save from the post itself
The Protego menu on a post offers to save the video or image whenever Reddit hosts the media itself. Tapping the save option opens Protego, which fetches the file while your Reddit tab stays where it was. Text posts, galleries, and posts pointing at media hosted elsewhere have nothing to fetch, so the menu offers no save.
Get the sound with the video
Reddit stores a video’s picture and its sound as two separate files, which is why a hand-saved Reddit video so often comes out silent. Protego takes whichever route the post offers, an already-joined file where Reddit provides one and both halves merged with no re-encoding otherwise, so the video plays with sound at the quality Reddit served. A GIF-style post has no sound.
Save an image at its original size
A Reddit-hosted image post saves the original file rather than the downsized copy the page renders, so the picture keeps the resolution and the format it was uploaded in. A GIF post saves as the real GIF file, not the shrunken preview the page plays in its place.
Send the file on without saving it anywhere
Share comes first once the download lands, because sending a clip to someone is usually the point, and one tap reaches Messages, AirDrop, Files, and Photos. The file carries the post’s own title as its name, so the person receiving it sees what it is. Sharing asks nothing of your photo library.
Keep the file on your device
A one-tap button keeps the file instead of sending it on: Save to Photos, or Save to Downloads on a Mac. Photos asks once for add-only access, which lets Protego add a file and never read your library. Nothing is written anywhere until you tap it, and dismissing the save without choosing discards the download.
Try again when a save fails
A save that cannot finish says what stopped it, whether Reddit was out of reach or the post’s video is gone. Protego does not retry by itself, so the next attempt starts from the Protego menu on the post. A Photos library that refuses the copy still leaves the download, which Share can send.
