Make old Reddit better
Protego sends the Reddit links you open to old.reddit.com, then adds the infinite scroll, auto-expanding images, and dark mode it never shipped with.
New Reddit gives most of a screen to everything except the post: cards, thumbnails, padding around padding. Old Reddit is titles and text, dense and fast, so a long feed goes by in a fraction of the scrolling. The usual reason people drift back to new Reddit is the small daily friction of a layout that stopped getting updates years ago. Protego removes it.
Open every Reddit link in the old layout
Redirect to old.reddit.com sends the links you open in Safari to the classic
site, so you land there without typing old. in front of anything. Four kinds of
link stay on new Reddit, where they work: the image and video viewer, galleries,
chat, and share links. The composer is a fifth, covered below.
Post photos and polls without losing old Reddit
Old Reddit’s submit form takes links and text, nothing else. Create posts on new Reddit, on by default, opens new Reddit’s composer when you start one, so photos, videos, galleries, polls, and drafts stay available. Tap Submit and Protego returns you to old Reddit for the post. (It works only while the redirect is on.)
Scroll a long feed with the images already open
Old Reddit paginates, so every feed ends in a next button. Never Ending Feed loads the following page as you near the bottom, turning a session into one continuous scroll. Auto-expand images opens image and gallery posts in feeds as they arrive, so you read instead of tapping expand on every picture. Videos and embeds stay collapsed.
Turn old Reddit dark and keep every community readable
Old Reddit has one appearance and it is light, whatever your device is set to. Dark theme renders it dark instead. Turn on Ignore community styles as well: a community can ship its own colors, which override the dark theme, and some of those custom looks are hard to read in any theme. Stock old Reddit styling replaces them.
Keep your filters and Protego buttons on old Reddit
Filters carry over whole: keywords, communities, users, and domains all match on old Reddit, and posts and comments carry a Protego link in the action row for filtering without leaving the page. Appearance differs. Thumbnails and both flair switches in visual clutter reach old Reddit; the avatar, banner, and status emoji ones are new Reddit only, and each setting says so.
