Privacy Policy

The short version

• No account. There is nothing to sign up for.
• No tracking and no ads in the app or the extension.
• No browsing history is collected.
• Your filter lists stay on your devices and in your own iCloud. I never see them, and no Protego server stores them.
• This website uses Google Analytics. The app and extension do not.

Your filter lists and sync

Filter lists, settings, and stats are stored on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, your filter lists and your stats counts sync between your devices through Apple’s iCloud key-value storage, tied to your own Apple Account. Settings stay on the device that set them. Both the app and the Safari extension read and write iCloud directly, so changes travel even when the app is closed.

That storage belongs to you. It is not a Protego server, and I have no way to read what is in it.

What the extension does on Reddit pages

All filtering happens in your browser. The extension reads the Reddit page you are viewing to decide what to hide, and the page content it reads never leaves your device. It sends nothing to Reddit, and nothing is removed from Reddit itself. Filtered posts are only hidden from your view.

Crash and error reports

The app and extension send crash and error reports through Sentry so problems can be found and fixed. These reports are content-free: they carry counts and technical context, and never the address of a page you visited, the text of your keywords or domains, or the content of any post.

Keyword suggestions

One optional feature talks to a server when you use it:

• Trending terms are fetched from a Protego relay service. The request carries a coarse region code so the terms match where you are, and no account, no identifier, and none of your saved filters.

Website analytics

This website, getprotego.app, uses Google Analytics to understand which pages are visited. Google Analytics sets cookies and records pages viewed, time on site, browser and device type, and approximate location derived from your IP address. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on in desktop browsers; on iPhone and iPad, a Safari content blocker that filters analytics does the same job. None of this applies inside the app or the extension.

Your data

There is no Protego server holding your data, so there is nothing for me to hand over or delete. Deleting the app removes its data from that device. Synced data lives in your iCloud and can be managed through your Apple Account.

Children’s privacy

Protego does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If the way Protego handles data changes, this page will be updated and the date above will move.
