Hide app nudges and ads

Hide the things Reddit puts in front of you to get something rather than because you asked. Seven independent switches.

A thread you opened to read arrives with a banner over the top of it, a popup asking you to sign in, a sponsored post where a real one would be, and a column of communities you never asked about. Protego’s switches take all of that off the page, leaving the posts, the comments, and room around them.

Keep your Reddit in Safari, not the app

Reddit’s push into its app runs from banners to Open App buttons to a wall that freezes the page. One switch hides them all and gives scrolling back. With the Reddit app installed, Safari draws its own Smart App Banner above the page, outside where any extension can reach; uninstall the Reddit app for the best experience.

Scroll a feed of posts instead of promotions

Sponsored posts, the ad units on comment pages and in a community’s sidebar, the Advertise button, and the games Reddit slots into the feed all come off the page. Protego hides them from your view; Reddit still serves them, so treat this as a calmer feed rather than an ad blocker.

Stop being asked to sign up or join

Logged out, you get a sign-in popup, Log In and Sign Up buttons, and a signup card in the left rail. Posts from communities you have not joined carry a Join button of their own. Two switches clear all of it on new Reddit, the left rail’s empty column included, and signing in still lives in the top-right menu.

Keep a page to what you asked for

Reddit surrounds what you read with suggestions: communities in the sidebar and feed, Related Posts and People Also Ask under a post, and its AI answer block above search results (new Reddit only). Two switches take all of that out, and the feed widens. A community’s About and Rules stay, and search keeps working. Thumbnails and flair have their own switches.

How to turn these on

  1. Open Protego and go to the Transform tab.
  2. Tap Nags & Promotions.
  3. Most are already on. Switch the rest on to taste; each is independent.
