Filter Reddit by social media

A ready-made list of social platforms. Switch on the ones you do not want in your feed.

You joined r/hogwarts for the conversation, and half of what arrives is a video hosted somewhere else, with the comments happening over there too. Those posts can leave your feed in a single move, while the community, its text posts, and the threads you came for stay exactly where they were.

Switch on a platform instead of typing its addresses

Bluesky, Facebook, Imgur, Instagram, LinkedIn, Mastodon, Pinterest, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, Tumblr, X/Twitter, and YouTube are all supported, ready to turn on in the app. Each name stands for a whole set of that platform’s addresses, so X/Twitter takes t.co along with twitter.com and x.com. Several platforms’ short links are in there too, which a hand-typed list often misses.

Turning on a platform filters every post whose link points there, wherever it turns up: feeds, community pages, search results, and profiles. The link is what matters, not the subject, so a text post about a platform stays, and so do comments. One tap is the shortest route from a feed of reposted video to a feed of Reddit.

See which address caught a post

Turn on Reveal Mode and a post the TikTok switch caught wears a badge reading Domain and the address that matched, not the platform’s name. That address is the useful part: it tells you what a platform’s links look like when they arrive, and which one to add by hand if a new one starts turning up.

Filter a site the list does not cover

The thirteen platforms are the whole preset, so a site outside them needs an entry of its own. Type the address under Domains: Social Media is a preset over the domain list rather than a separate kind of filter, so both are matched the same way. Switching a platform on adds no rows to your own Domains list.

Switch platforms back off, one or all

A platform you switch off is not deleted, and the link posts it was hiding come back on the next Safari refresh, which makes trying one for a week a cheap experiment. The Social Media options menu carries Disable All for the whole set in one go, and asks you to confirm before it runs.

How to turn these on

  1. Open Protego and go to the Filter tab.
  2. Tap Social Media.
  3. Switch on each platform you want filtered. They all start off.
