Make comment threads readable
Buttons that jump you through a long thread and back to its top, plus controls that fold reply chains, color thread lines, and collapse media.
A busy thread in r/quidditch runs to four thousand comments, and the reply you want is buried in a chain you have to scroll past to reach. Protego turns that page into something you can move around in and read at a glance, so a long thread is worth opening instead of something you skim once and abandon.
Move through a long thread without scrolling it
Next and previous buttons step through comments one at a time, skipping past reply chains instead of scrolling them; on a device with a keyboard, J and K do the same. A Back to top button returns you to the start, live once you have scrolled into the comments. Both float in the corner of comment pages.
Open a thread as a list of top-level comments
Collapse reply threads folds every reply chain the moment a thread opens, leaving the top-level comments in view, so you see what people said before committing to one argument inside it. Open any folded chain to read it. A link to a single comment still opens on that comment.
Tell at a glance who is replying to whom
Thread Colors paints each comment’s thread line by its reply depth, so you can follow a long back-and-forth without counting indents. Pick Default, Rainbow, wobniaR, or Vibecoded, or leave it Off to keep Reddit’s own line. Avatars and flair around those comments come off separately, in visual clutter.
Keep media and pinned moderator comments out of the way
Comments carrying an image, GIF, or video, and the moderator comment pinned to the top of a thread, each have their own setting: Visible, Collapse, or Hide. Collapse folds one to a line you tap open, Hide drops it from the thread, and either takes the comment’s replies along. AutoModerator’s pinned comment counts as a moderator’s.
