Protego works inside Safari. Turning it on takes a minute.
iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro
- Get the app. Download Protego from the App Store and open it once. The welcome tour ends on this same walkthrough.
- Open Reddit in Safari. Go to reddit.com.
- Turn on Protego. Tap the puzzle-piece button in the address bar, choose "Manage Extensions", and switch on Protego.
- Allow it on Reddit. Tap Protego in that same menu, then "Always Allow", then "Always Allow on This Website".
Mac
- Get the app. Download Protego from the Mac App Store and open it once. One purchase covers every device.
- Open Reddit in Safari. Go to reddit.com.
- Turn on Protego. Press ⌘, (or Safari menu, then Settings), click "Extensions", then find Protego in the sidebar and check its box.
- Allow it on Reddit. Back on reddit.com, click Protego’s icon in Safari’s toolbar, then "Always Allow on This Website".
Common questions
Posts I filtered are still showing up
Check three things. First, that the extension is on and allowed on reddit.com (the steps above). Second, that the Filter toggle at the top of the Filter tab is on. Third, that the filter itself is switched on: any keyword, community, or user can be toggled off without being deleted, so a gray item in your list is paused. If everything looks right, refresh the Reddit page.
What do Limits actually do?
Filtering hides posts. Limits block pages. The levels stack from "Block Home & Popular" up to "Block everything", and each level says what stays open. You can also bind a limit to a Focus like Sleep or Study in the Limits tab, and it applies while that Focus is on and steps back down when it ends.
How do I remove the Protego buttons on Reddit pages?
The in-page shield can be turned off per surface. In the app, go to Settings, then Protego Controls, and switch off the buttons for posts, comments, communities, or profiles.
How does sync work?
Lists sync through your own iCloud, so every device signed in to the same Apple Account stays current, even when the app is closed. Deleting a filter on one device deletes it everywhere. There is no Protego account and no Protego server.
I imported a list and it added fewer items than the file has
The import reports the real count: entries that were already in your list or that fail validation are skipped, and the summary tells you how many were actually added.
A word I filtered still appears inside an image
Protego filters text: titles, bodies, community and author names, and link addresses. It cannot read words inside images or videos.
