Back up, share, and import
Write your filter lists to one JSON file, read a file back in to merge or replace, and erase a list for good.
Your filter lists are months of small decisions, and losing them means making every one again. iCloud already carries them to your other devices; a file is for the jobs iCloud does not do: a snapshot before you change something drastic, a copy that outlives signing out, and a set of lists you can hand to a friend.
Export the lists you pick to one file
Export Lists offers Keywords, Communities, Users, Social Media, and Domains. Check any of them and tap Export: everything checked goes into one dated JSON file you pick a home for, ready to keep as a backup or send to somebody else.
Know what an exported file carries
Each entry in the file keeps what you typed, its label, whether it is switched on, and its own extra option where it has one, so a filter you had switched off comes back switched off. Keyword groups do not travel: imported keywords arrive loose, ready to group again.
Import a file into your lists
Import Lists opens the file picker, JSON only, and offers the lists your file holds. Every entry goes through the same checks as one you type, so a malformed line is skipped rather than saved, and Protego reports what landed and what was already there.
Choose Merge or Replace before anything lands
Import Lists asks how the file should land. Merge adds the file’s items to your lists and skips any you already have. Replace empties the lists you picked, then adds the file’s items, leaving your other lists alone. Neither can be undone, and both reach your other devices.
Erase a list and start over
Erase Lists offers Keywords, Communities, Users, Social Media, and Domains, and clears whichever you check, leaving the rest alone. Erasing keywords takes their groups too, unlike Replace on an import. Protego asks you to confirm first, and the erase reaches your other devices and cannot be undone. Social Media is the exception: it switches every platform off rather than deleting anything.
